Where
Since 1981, JazzUnites Inc. Founder Geraldine de Haas has continued to produce free
public concerts to bring America’s classic and singular art form jazz to multi-cultural
audiences. This festival has brought local, national and international artists to
the historic South Shore Cultural Center, exposing new and legendary talent in the
jazz arena.
Every year, during the first weekend in August, Jazz Unites holds the South Shore
Annual JazzFest at the South Shore Cultural Center. The beautiful Chicago Park District
facility was formerly a country club, complete with lake- side lawn and beach, a
nine–hole golf course and a grand clubhouse with the full array of accommodations.
The South Shore Annual JazzFest uses almost every inch of the facility during the
course of the two–day event. It is also an opportunity for the widest possible audience
to hear some of the world’s top artists. The always peaceful, always well attended
free neighborhood festival is one of the biggest in the city and the only African–American
produced Jazz Festival in the United States.
More
This two-day concert sits behind the backdrop of the historic South Shore Cultural
Center. This concert is one of the most highly anticipated outdoor jazz events in
Chicago. The musical festival traces its roots back to the first Duke Ellington Tribute
held in Grant Park in 1974.
